Schenectady County Legislature Salutes Caregivers on National Caregivers Day

Caring Hands

Highlights Services Available to Caregivers through Office of Senior & Long Term Care

The Schenectady County Legislature is saluting caregivers throughout the County on National Caregivers Day, February 16, 2024.

Caregivers play a crucial role in the lives of aging friends and family,” said Omar McGill, Vice Chair of the Health, Housing & Human Services Committee. “On National Caregivers Day, we honor those who selflessly help those in need, and also offer our support to caregivers as they navigate the challenges they face while caring for their loved ones.”

Schenectady County Office of Senior and Long Term Care (SLTC)

SLTC promotes the long term health and wellbeing of Schenectady County residents and assure that they receive the necessary community based services that they are entitled to in order to remain safely in the community. As a NY Connects partner, SLTC provides seniors and caregivers with the information and support they need to make informed decisions.

Caregiver Support Services Available through SLTC

Schenectady County caregivers are urged to take advantage of the free resources offered through the Office of Senior and Long Term Care, including support groups, one-on-one counseling, and training and workshops.

Support Groups

Support groups create a safe, confidential, supportive environment or community and a chance for participants to develop informal mutual support and social relationships. They also educate and inform participants about dementia and help participants develop methods and skills to solve problems. Schenectady County’s Office of Senior & Long Term Care partners with The Alzheimer’s Association of Northeastern New York to offer free caregiver support groups throughout the County. Pre-registration is not required.
