Schenectady County held an Honor-A-Veteran ceremony on March 16, 2024 to recognize Vietnam Veteran Domenick S. DeSantis, Jr.

The Honor-A-Veteran program is a collaboration between Schenectady County’s Veterans Service Agency and the County’s Honor-A-Veteran Committee to honor veterans who were either born in or currently reside in Schenectady County. Members of the committee are from various veteran organizations throughout the County.

Our Honor A Veteran events are about more than just recognizing a veterans' service and sacrifices; they're also about raising awareness and showing gratitude to all of our veterans and their families,” said Schenectady County Legislator Holly Vellano, Chair of the Military Affairs & Veterans Committee. “We encourage members of our community to take a moment to nominate the veterans in their life for this program, so we can honor their bravery and sacrifice together.”

Domenick S. DeSantis, Jr.

Domenick S. DeSantis, Jr., who was born in Catskill, NY on April 6, 1949, joined the U.S. Navy on June 4, 1968, and was separated on June 30, 1970.

While in the service he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, RVN Gallantry Cross, and the Combat Action Ribbon.

Domenick served as the Local Chapter Commander and Vice Commander of the Navy Seabee Veterans of America, and the New York State Chaplain of the Navy Seabees of America.

A resident of Glenville for over 50 years, Domenick was a construction worker and comptroller for Towne Construction and Paving of Rotterdam.
