Schenectady County Announces Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program

Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program

Schenectady County’s Department of Senior & Long Term Care Services is now offering $25 in Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) coupons to low-income residents 60 years of age or older, to buy locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables at participating farmers’ markets in New York State.

Booklets are available while supplies last. Each senior in an eligible household may receive one booklet per program year. A list of participating farmers’ markets is available at https://agriculture.ny.gov/farmers-markets-county?county=Schenectady. The market must indicate that FMNP is accepted.

“The Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program is a great resource for our seniors, many of whom live on a fixed income and may find it harder to purchase fresh produce,” said Schenectady County Legislator Michelle Ostrelich, Chair of the Committee on Health, Housing & Human Services.

“These free coupon booklets can help Schenectady County seniors access locally grown fruits and vegetables this summer while also supporting vendors at our local farmers markets.”

To qualify, you must be 60 years of age or older, reside in New York State, and:

  • Have a monthly income at or below
    • $2,248/month for a 1-person household, or
    • $3,041/month for a 2-person household, or
    • $3,833 for a 3-person household, AND
  • Have not received Farmers’ Market Coupons from any other location this year.

Eligible individuals can request a coupon booklet by calling (518) 382-8481 ext. 1302. Booklets can be picked up at the S&LTC office at 107 Nott Terrace, Suite 305. The coupons can only be used to purchase fruit and vegetables.
