Domestic Violence Awareness Month

In average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. Each year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men. Domestic violence occurs across every culture, race, religion, and socio-economic status.

YWCA NorthEastern NY is the area’s leader in domestic violence services and operator of the only domestic violence shelter in Schenectady County. We offer a 24-hour hotline, safe shelter, counseling, advocacy, groups, case management, children’s services, and post-shelter services to those who experience domestic violence.

During the month of October, we offer additional events to raise awareness and support for domestic violence. We would love for you to take in fighting back against injustice by joining us at one of our events.

A Birthday Party - Screening & Panel Discussion

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2022

Union College Reamer Campus Center | 5:30pm

This event is free and open to the public! A Birthday Party was chosen to illustrate the intersection of identity, culture, and the preservation of cultural norms while addressing dominant culture's effects on tradition. YWCA NENY hopes that participants walk away with a perspective that enhances their cultural lens and antagonizes monolithic thought. The goal is to provide a multidimensional lens to a global perspective that allows for thought-provoking conversation and leads to true allyship. Tickets can be reserved here.

Party with a Purpose

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2022

Frog Alley Brewing | 5-8pm

YWCA NENY and 518 Brews are teaming up for a special happy hour with Josh and Kevin (of local favorite band 2096) at Frog Alley to raise money for YWCA NENY’s domestic violence programs. This will wrap up YWCA’s National 2022 Week Without Violence where we are all challenged to imagine a world with no violence. Stop by to share some pints with a purpose with your Schenectady YWCA and their friends from 518 Brews and enjoy the musical wonders and two of our biggest allies, Josh and Kevin! All proceeds raised will directly benefit survivors of domestic violence who look to YWCA NENY for support.
