Schenectady County Resumes Public Skating at Recreational Facility

Schenectady County Recreational Facility

The Schenectady County Recreational Facility will resume public skating hours starting today. Due to the pandemic, public skating has not been offered at the facility since March of 2020.

Since the late 2000s, the Schenectady County Recreational Facility has served residents and ice skating enthusiasts throughout the Capital Region. The facility is currently open for open figure skating, ice hockey and learn-to-skate programs.

“We know how much kids and families have missed public skating since the facility was shut down due to the pandemic in March of 2020,” said Schenectady County Legislator Cathy Gatta, Chair of the Tourism, Arts & Special Events Committee. “It was important for us to start offering public skating again, especially as the weather starts to get cooler and families look for different activities to do.”

September Public Skate Schedule

Starting today (September 15), public skating will be available:

  • Wednesdays from 11:30am-1pm
  • Fridays from 11:30am-1pm
  • Saturdays from 2-4pm

Additional information, including the full rink schedule and admission prices, is available at www.schenectadycounty.com/recreation-center.

Masks are currently required in all County facilities, including the Recreational Facility, and individuals will need to sign in for contact tracing purposes.

The Recreational Facility is home to the Schenectady Youth Hockey Association, Burnt Hills/Ballston Spa High School Hockey, Storm High School Hockey, and numerous adult hockey leagues.
