Schenectady County Announces Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program

Schenectady County Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program

Schenectady County’s Department of Senior & Long Term Care Services is now offering $20 in coupons, to low-income Schenectady County residents 60 years of age or older, to buy locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables at participating farmers’ markets in New York State.

Booklets are available now, while supplies last. Each senior in an eligible household may receive one booklet per program year. A list of participating farmers’ markets is available at https://agriculture.ny.gov/farmers-markets-county?county=Schenectady. The market must indicate that FMNP is accepted.

“Farmers’ markets are in full swing and these coupon booklets can help our seniors, who are often on a fixed budget, purchase locally grown fresh fruits and veggies,” said Schenectady County Legislator Sara Mae Pratt, Vice-Chair of the Committee on Health & Human Services. “This is a win-win for our seniors and local farmers, who sell their products at the Schenectady Greenmarket and Schenectady Farmers Market. If you think you qualify, call our Department of Senior & Long Term Care Services to request a coupon booklet.”

To qualify, you must be 60 years of age or older, reside in Schenectady County, and:
