 Isolation Tools

The CDC and NYS DOH have developed tools to determine how long you need to isolate and other steps to take to help prevent the spread of COVID-19

Isolation and Quarantine Table*

What to do if you test positive for COVID-19

If you have self-tested at home, report positive test results to SCPHS.

Regardless of vaccination status, you should still isolate from others when you have COVID-19. You should also isolate if you are sick and suspect that you have COVID-19 but do not yet have test results.

Isolation and Precautions for People with COVID-19

After you have ended isolation, if your COVID-19 symptoms recur or worsen, restart your isolation at day 0. Talk to a healthcare provider if you have questions about your symptoms or when to end isolation.

CLICK HERE TO PRINT PAPERWORK SHOWING THAT YOU ARE ON ISOLATION (afirmatcion de aislamiento) - this form may be used for Isolation Release or for NY Paid Family Leave COVID-19 claims as if it was an Individual Order for Isolation issued by Schenectady County Public Health Services.

Guidance for Isolation in High-Risk Congregate Settings

In certain congregate settings that have a high risk of secondary transmission and where it is not feasible to cohort people (such as correctional and detention facilities, homeless shelters, and cruise ships), the CDC recommends a 10-day isolation period for residents.

Guidance for Healthcare Professionals

What to do it you have been exposed to COVID-19

Quarantine is no longer recommended for people who are exposed to COVID-19 except in certain high-risk congregate settings such as correctional facilities, homeless shelters, and nursing homes.

Free At-Home Test Kits

As COVID-19 Home test kits become more available the FDA is continuously monitoring the expiration dates to make sure they are accurate. Before throwing away a test where the box says the test is expired please make sure to check  on the testing company's website to see if the expiration date has been extended.

Free at-home COVID-19 test kits are available at all 9 of the County's branch libraries – visit www.scpl.org for locations and hours.

Guidance for Schools and Childcare Programs

Parents/guardians should contact the school district for their specific COVID-19 protocols.

Parents/guardians can look at the Isolation and Quarantine Table to determine when a child under isolation or quarantine may be able to return to school or eligible childcare programs.
